F1® confirms record 24-race calendar for 2024
24-date calendar includes returning Chinese Grand Prix
Formula 1® has confirmed its 2024 season calendar featuring a record 24 races, two mid-season breaks, four doubleheaders, two tripleheaders, and the return of the Chinese Grand Prix.
Season begins with two Saturday night races
The 2024 Formula 1® season begins in Bahrain (2 March) with a Saturday evening time slot for the first time in the race’s 20-year history. It will form a Middle East doubleheader with the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix (9 March) running a week later, also scheduled to run on Saturday night.
Melbourne returns for its now-traditional March slot on the calendar, with races in Japan (moving forwards from October) slotting in before F1® returns to China for round five (21 April).
The third running of the Miami Grand Prix will see a 5 May slot for the race around Hard Rock Stadium, followed by a return to Imola two weeks later (19 May) to form a doubleheader with Monaco (26 May). Formula 1® will return to the Italian circuit after this year’s Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was cancelled due to the heavy flooding in the region just days before the 2023 race was due to take place.
Formula 1® will then kick-start the summer with a return to Montreal for the popular Canadian Grand Prix (9 June) followed by a European tripleheader featuring races in Barcelona (23 June), Spielberg (30 June) and Silverstone (7 July).
The first half of the season then concludes with a second doubleheader as the Hungarian and Belgian Grands Prix are paired together (21-28 July).
A busy second half ends with two tripleheaders
Formula 1® teams then take a well-earned rest for a few weeks in August before the resumption of the season with a third doubleheader in Zandvoort (25 August) and Monza (1 September).
The paddock then heads east for the season’s fourth doubleheader, with Azerbaijan moving to a later date (15 September) to pair with the Singapore Grand Prix (22 September) which will celebrate 15 years of Formula 1® next year.
A second mid-season break then follows before the teams return for a busy end to the season with two tripleheaders between late October and early December.
The United States Grand Prix kicks off an all-Americas triple-header with races in Austin (20 October), Mexico City (27 October), and Sao Paulo (3 November) grouped together before a two-week break to recharge in mid-November.
Formula 1®’s longest-ever season then concludes with the second edition of the Las Vegas Grand Prix (23 November) and a Middle Eastern pairing of the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix on December 1st and 8th respectively.
F1 returns to Shanghai while Suzuka gets a new date
Following its extension through to 2025, the Chinese Grand Prix will return to the Formula 1® calendar next season for the first time since 2019. The last time F1® raced at the Shanghai International Circuit, Formula 1® celebrated the 1000th race of its modern-era World Championship, however, the race has not run since due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
The Japanese Grand Prix will precede the race in Shanghai in a new 7 April date. Appearing as the fourth date on the 2024 calendar, it marks the first occasion that the iconic Suzuka Circuit has hosted a grand prix earlier than its usual October date.
