What is Formula 2™ and Formula 3™?
Before drivers reach the Formula 1® grid, they prove themselves in Formula 2™ and Formula 3™. These championships run alongside F1® on race weekends and are where Rising Stars begin to separate themselves.
Success in Formula 2™ and Formula 3™ is often the first sign a driver is ready for the ultimate step, where strong performances catch the attention of F1® teams and shape the next generation of the grid.
F2™ is the final step before Formula 1®, featuring powerful cars and race weekends that closely reflect the demands of F1®. Drivers compete in cars with around 620 horsepower, DRS, and mandatory pit stops, giving them experience with the strategies and challenges faced at the top level. Many current F1® stars, including Charles Leclerc, George Russell, and Lando Norris, made their names in F2™, showing just how crucial this series is for spotting the next generation.
F3™ is focused on driver development, with an emphasis on raw talent in tightly matched machinery. Cars are less powerful and use standardized components to ensure skill shines through. F3™ has seen drivers like Oscar Piastri and Isack Hadjar compete, offering an early glimpse of those who may soon move up to F2™ and ultimately F1®.
