Wendy Brockbank, an F1 Experiences sales agent from Australia, travelled with her husband Phil and a group of “F1 newbies” to the recent races in Austria and Great Britain. Here, she tells us about her experience.
Austrian Grand Prix
There were nine of us on the trip; seven who left Australia together on the same flights all the way to Graz. We arrived in Graz on the Monday of race week and settled into the excellent LEND Hotel. We were joined the following day by a couple from the UK who completed our touring party. We spent the first couple of days exploring this wonderful Austrian city. On Wednesday, we watched on from the square at the base of Schlossberg Hill as Max Verstappen tore up the hill in his Red Bull to attend a formal function at the top.
It was the second year in succession that we have attended the Austrian Grand Prix. The first time was amazing, but this was absolutely incredible! We spent Friday in the Formula 1 Paddock Club, followed by Saturday and Sunday in the Champions Club. The organisation was impeccable by all concerned and a shout out to the ‘dynamic duo’ – James and Laura – for the outstanding work they do in ensuring everything goes so smoothly and professionally. The whole F1 Experiences Team were friendly and professional, enhancing our experience.
The only thing that stopped this experience from being perfect was the fact that it was extremely hot in Austria! Apart from that, it couldn’t have been better. It would be difficult to plan and prepare for the heat wave, because the year before was ideal weather.
The Austrian part of the trip was astonishing on every level. Highlights include the Paddock Club on the Friday, the Champions Club (with its great viewing position) on the Saturday and Sunday and the activities provided in the Hero Upgrade. It didn’t hurt the experience having one of the better races to watch.
Austria is a magnificent country and the 50-minute journey to the track is just a luxury ride through some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. We didn’t stopover in Vienna on this trip, but it may be part of our future tours.
Berlin, London, Brooklands, Northampton
After the Austrian Grand Prix, we flew to Berlin and spent 3 days exploring this amazing city. Everyone was supplied with a Berlin Pass for free transport, free entry to almost all the city attractions and discounts on many other activities. The only comment we heard was they could have easily enjoyed another day or two!
After Berlin, we all flew to the UK and spent two nights in London. Our time there coincided with the semi-finals of the Cricket World Cup, Wimbledon and the Pride Parade and Festival, which was certainly entertaining but made it a very busy city! We also travelled to Weybridge to visit the Brooklands Museum and Mercedes Benz World. Several members of our group also took part in the 4WD Experience, driving a Mercedes SUV through the challenging off-road course.
The next day, we were off to the Marriott hotel in Northampton in our luxury coach. The first full day in Northampton we hired a 9-seater van and visited the tourist places in Northampton but also went to the Red Bull factory in Milton Keynes, where we were fortunate to ‘bump into’ Adrian Newey in the carpark for a photo opportunity (and an explanation of what a legend he is in the world of F1 to the ‘newbies’).
British Grand Prix
Silverstone is an iconic circuit and the Brits love their motorsport, so the whole four days were a blast. This time, we had Hero Ticket Packages, which included great seats in the International Pit Straight Grandstand. Again, James, Laura and the whole F1 Experiences team were magnificent and made our group feel very special. The access on Friday evening in the pit lane during F1 Insider Access was outstanding and everyone was amazed that we were able to get so close the cars.
One of the great advantages of F1 Experiences is the transportation to and from the event. We were dropped off inside the circuit each day and simply strolled to our chosen grandstand (on the Friday and Saturday) or our reserved seats on the International Pit Straight (Sunday). To give you some idea of how great the transport was, we arrived back at our hotel after the race less than 1 hour after we left the circuit – and that was with a recorded attendance on the race day of over 140,000 fans!
We are all still on a high! I think we got the balance perfect with our group experiencing both high-end hospitality and also the best Fan Experience Package with great grandstand seats – the Hero Ticket Package is great for those wanting the fan experience because of the superior grandstand viewing. F1 Experiences is the only way to attend a Formula 1 Race. With the unique, behind the scenes access, you cannot get any closer to Formula 1.
