Exclusive Pit Lane Walk & Guided Track Tour

It was a chilly start in Austin for our trackside activities at Circuit of The Americas on the same day that the FIA and Formula 1 announced new regulations for 2021 to a generally positive reception. Between the pit lane and the track, we had several encounters with the F1 drivers and teams as preparations began for the third to last race of the 2019 season. After checking out the cars in the pits (and watching several practice pitstops), our guests had the chance to feel every bend and contour during a lap of Circuit of The Americas before a photo op with the championship trophies on the Main Straight.

Carlos Sainz Jr.: Champions Club Reception

Carlos Sainz Jr. was our special guest on Friday evening for a Champions Club Reception. The Spanish driver has impressed for McLaren this year with consistently high-scoring points finishes that have placed him ‘best of the rest’; he sits seventh in the drivers’ standings with two races to run, wedged between the Red Bull/Toro Rosso pair of Alexander Albon (sixth) and Pierre Gasly (eighth).

Our sneak peek behind the scenes of Formula 1 began when we were joined onstage in the Champions Club Reception by ex-racers Ricardo Teixeira and Sam Power, Jose from Alpine Stars and F1 Logistics Chief Christian Pohlhammer. The Hero and Trophy guests then headed to the pitlane for a photo op on the top step of the podium, a meeting with Safety Car Driver Bernd Mayländer, a chat about Pirelli tyres with Max Aitken and an encounter with “Virtual Statman” Sean Kelly, who provides live stats to David Croft and Martin Brundle during F1 races.

Haas Hangout

America’s only Formula 1 team joined us in the Champions Club on Saturday evening for the Haas Hangout. In addition to race drivers Kevin Magnussen and Romain Grosjean, we were also lucky to have team principal Guenther Steiner and owner Gene Haas up on stage talking about their season to date and hopes for the future.

Race Day

With some of the best grandstand seats at COTA, not to mention the stunning views from the Champions Club and Formula 1 Paddock, our guests were ready for the main event! After taking a strong pole position on Saturday, Valtteri Bottas led the field away and made a two-stop strategy work to take the victory, his fourth of the season. But this day was all about Lewis Hamilton, who came home in second to secure his sixth World Championship. The Brit has now moved into a clear second on the all-time list, just one more successful season away from emulating the great Michael Schumacher.

Celebrating his 100th Grand Prix, Max Verstappen took the final podium place. It was an afternoon to forget for Ferrari as Sebastian Vettel retired with suspension failure and Charles Leclerc came home a distant fourth. Alexander Albon took Driver of the Day honours after a fine drive from the back of the field to fifth.
