Lewis Hamilton capped off another dominant season by taking his fifth Abu Dhabi Grand Prix victory as our guests got closer to Formula 1 at the incredible Yas Marina Circuit. Check out our highlights from the final race of the 2019 season.
Hamilton dominates at Yas Marina Circuit
Hamilton achieved his eleventh win of the 2019 season at Yas Marina Circuit on Sunday, leading from lights to flag after starting from pole position. Max Verstappen finished second after passing Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc on Lap 32, securing third place in the driver’s standings for the season ahead of the young Ferrari driver. Despite being fined for a fuel irregularity, Leclerc kept the final podium spot in Abu Dhabi ahead of Valtteri Bottas, who charged through the field from last place on the grid to a fine fourth. Further back, Carlos Sainz passed Daniel Ricciardo on the last lap for tenth place, taking a vital point that secured him sixth place in the drivers’ standings after an impressive season for McLaren. The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was the swansong for Robert Kubica and Nico Hülkenberg, neither of whom have secured a drive for next season.
Podium, Pit Lane Walk, Guided Track Tour & Paddock Club Reception
After the sun went down on Thursday, our Fan Experience guests enjoyed a Guided Track Tour and Exclusive Pit Lane Walk, followed by a photo op with the championship trophies. Trophy and Hero guests also returned on Friday evening for F1 Insider Access, which featured visits to the McLaren and Safety Car garages, a photo op on the top step of the podium and a chat with “Virtual Statman” Sean Kelly. One lucky group also ran into all the drivers when they were coming out of their briefing session! A big day ended with a reception in the Paddock Club and a guest appearance by Kevin Magnussen from the Haas F1 Team, who talked about his challenging season and his hopes for better results in 2020.
As always, we were joined by some big names across the weekend. In the Champions Club Trackside Terrace, four-time World Champion Alain Prost talked about the future for Renault and some of his most famous teammates over the years. Our guests in the Trackside Terrace enjoyed stunning panoramic views over more than half of the circuit, along with premium hospitality and Guided Paddock Access. Meanwhile, 1997 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve and 9-time race winner Mark Webber made special appearances in the Champions Club on the St. David Trackside Yacht. The party continued on the St. David until the early hours with special yacht parties taking place every night of race weekend.
